Silver Acacia thorns and Kalanchoe
Silver Acacia a shrub belonging to the family of Fabaceae, known as Thorntree, Whistling Thorn or Wattle. Name derives from the Greek word ‘akis’ meaning thorn. Acacias found on the African continent tend to be very thorny.
Kalanchoe, a genus of about 125 species of succulent flowering plants in the family Crassulaceae. Known as ‘thousands and millions of red and purple’, in Chinese. As a result usually purchased for decorative purposes during Chinese New Year.
Some Kalanchoe cause cardiac poisoning to grazing animals, a particular problem in the Karoo region of South Africa.
